Churches almost never ask this question in the abstract. They ask it because the image looks washed out, and somebody has seen an LED wall at a conference. So this page compares the thing that actually fixes a washed-out image against the thing people think they need.

LED wall pricing depends on pixel pitch, cabinet count and the processing behind it, so no honest single figure exists. Get a quotation that includes structure, electrical work, processing and spare modules, because the panels alone are not the project.

Choose the projector path for almost every church

Work through the cheap fixes first, in order, because most washed-out images are fixed before the projector is reached. Control the ambient light: blinds on the clerestory windows and house lights that can come down are free or close to it. Then the screen surface, because an ALR screen reflects the projector back at the congregation while absorbing light arriving from above, which raises contrast in a way extra lumens cannot. Size the brightness from the colour brightness figure rather than the white lumens if there is any ambient light, which is the trap covered in three-chip against single-chip. Go in with the full scope. The heat load is real and affects the room.

Choose pixel pitch by your front row, not by budget. The working rule of thumb is that the minimum comfortable viewing distance in metres is roughly the pixel pitch in millimetres, so a 2.9 mm wall wants the nearest viewer about three metres back. A church that buys a coarse pitch to save money and seats people six feet away has bought a wall that looks worse than the projector it replaced.
