  1. Decide the sixteen channels before wiring anything. A typical worship set is lead vocal, three backing vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, keyboard left and right, kick, snare, overheads, click, tracks, talkback and a spare. Write that list down first, because the channel order becomes muscle memory for the band.
  2. Group what nobody needs separately. Drums can travel as a stereo pair rather than five channels, which frees slots for things musicians actually adjust. Sixteen channels is plenty when it is spent on decisions the band makes and wasted when it is spent on tom microphones.
